GEORGE PINDAR SCHOOL IS PART OF

Art

Art

Head of Faculty: Mr E Lyell

Second in Faculty: Miss B Petts

Key Stage 3

In KS3 students study one lesson per week which allows them to develop their skills and knowledge to become creative and analytical artists. Students learn how to observe and recreate the techniques of a range of artists and art movements.

The wide range of media used allows each student to experiment and experience methods in expressing to the viewer the emotions and context of the art.  Students use sketchbooks to record the development of their thinking over time; this is a very important part of ensuring rapid and sustained progress.

There is an emphasis on students understanding the art of a wide range of cultures, celebrating their diversity and influences. This provides students with a firm foundation to recreate and expand into their own creative methods of communication.

We obtained Artsmark Gold Award in 2010 and the art staff are committed to providing an engaging and individualised learning experience for its students. At our annual Art Exhibition, we strive to exhibit a piece of work from every student.

Key Stage 4

GCSE Art and Design

Exam Board: AQA: GCSE Art

This exciting, creative and practical GCSE is comprised of two parts. Students will produce a portfolio of Controlled Assessment work; this will add up to 60% of their overall grade. In the Spring Term of Year 11 students will undertake an Externally Set Task; this is a project set by AQA and is worth 40% of their GCSE grade.

Students are encouraged during the course to produce project-based work using a variety of different two and three-dimensional media. Students are encouraged to record observations; analyse images/artefacts; develop their own ideas relating to the theme and produce a personal response.

Assessment:
